Insurance Scheme for Foreigners Visiting Thailand in Event of Riots

Since 1 May 2009, the Royal Thai Government has set up an insurance scheme specifically for foreigners visiting the Kingdom who are affected by looses or harms or unable to leave the Kingdom in event of riots.

For the current situation related the demonstrations taking place in Thailand, this insurance scheme covers losses and damages occurring during the period from 9 April 2010 at 16.31 hrs. until 31 March 2011 at 16.30 hrs. and applies to all foreign visitors entering the Kingdom legally. It covers losses and damages in the following three cases, as follows;

1)Loss of life, limbs or permanent disabilities in the amount of not exceeding US$ 10,000 per person.

2)Hospital expenses as incurred, and hospital stay, if necessary, for a maximum period of 10days, in the amount of US$ 1,000 per person and not exceeding US$ 10,000 per person.

3)Loss or damage due to travel limitation in the amount of US$ 100 per person per day but not exceeding the total of US$ 10,000 per person.
 
To make claims under the Insurance Scheme for Foreigners Visiting the Kingdom, those eligible should contact Indara Insurance Public Company Limited (at +662-205-7711) within 30 days as from the date when the losses or damages occurred. Among the documents required are: 1) copy of the affected person’s passport with immigration stamp; 2) death certificate and forensic report in case of death, or doctor reports in case of loss of important organs or limbs, or injuries; and 3) document certifying that the person concerned is covered by the insurance. It should be noted that this insurance Scheme does not cover foreigners with resident status in Thailand. Neither does it cover losses and damages occurring outside Thailand or due to causes other than the riots, including acts of terrorism.
 
Total amount of compensation
in the above 3 cases altogether must not exceed 10,000 USD per person. The protection is terminated when the compensation reaches 10,000 USD per person.
 

Compensation cannot be claimed for the following cases:
1
. Losses or damages happened or resulted from other causes besides a riot
2
. Losses or damages happened outside Thailand
3
. Wars, invasion, turmoil by foreigner enemies, warlike circumstance with or without war declaration
4. Terrorism

 

Damage Registration Protected persons or representatives should register for compensation immediately or in writing within 15 days since the damage happened

Procedures of Registration for Compensation

at Tourist Police Division or Tourist Police Stations
Abroad: at Overseas Offices of Tourism Authority of Thailand
 
Documents required
 

In case of death

1. Copy of passport of protected person stamped for entering Thailand
2. Official evidence of damaged protected according to this insurance programme or daily record of police
3. Death certificate indicating cause of death
4. Autopsy report
5. Evidence of being a legitimate heir of the protected person
 

In case of losing organs, sigh, permanent disables

1. Copy of passport of protected person stamped for entering Thailand
2. Official evidence of damaged protected according to this insurance programme or daily record of police
3. Medical report
 

In case of Medical Expense Compensation

1. Copy of passport of protected person stamped for entering Thailand
